Watercolor and Glass Works on Display Through the Month at Gallery North

The featured artists are Kim Caldwell and JR Hawse.

Mixed Exposure, the current exhibit at in Edmonds, spotlights  the work of watercolor artist Kim Caldwell and glass artist JR Hawse, who is also Gallery North's president. The exhibition includes landscape paintings and lampwork bead jewelry.

Caldwell’s new paintings are inspired by her travels locally or overseas. In a recent trip to Ireland Caldwell was inspired by the quality of light. “I was awed by the pearlescent glow of the Irish landscape,” she said. “There is so much moisture in the air, and it creates this amazing iridescence to everything around you see. I just had to paint it.”

Hawse's jewelry pieces are created from her handcrafted beads. She creates her lampwork beads by melting Venetian and other fine glass with an oxygen-propane torch, shaping it, and embellishing the beads in the flame with additional glass and other compatible materials such as silver, gold, stones, and enamel.
