Visit Edmonds Patch Saturday at Waterfront Festival

Be sure to stop by and say hey. The 25th annual event is Friday through Sunday and features activities and music for both kids and those 21 and over.

The popular Edmonds Rotary Waterfront Festival is just around the corner, which means summer's in sight, right?

This year's festival, which begins Friday and continues through Sunday, is special because it's the 25th anniversary.

To help mark that celebration, Edmonds Patch will have a booth all day Saturday. Make sure to stop by. Here are just a few things you can do:

  • Shower us with story ideas (we love these)
  • Shower us with compliments if you'd like (we love these, too)
  • Register for our newsletter (comes out every day!)
  • Become a blogger (we love our bloggers)
  • Complain about the media (go ahead, we do it all the time)
  • Make us think you want to talk to us and then just ask for restroom directions (we'll know where they are)

Of course, there is much to do at the festival, and all proceeds (there is a $3 entrance fee) go toward charitable purposes selected by the Rotary Club of Edmonds.

Last year's festival was one of the best ever, as far as finances go, bringing in $40,000. The money was used to fund local scholarships, the YWCA Trinity Place transitional housing and other Rotary Club projects.

One highlight is the display of more than 12 classic wooden yachts as part of the Festival for the Classic Yacht Rendezvous. The event is sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Fleet of the Classic Yacht Association and the Port of Edmonds. You can view the boats from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Many of the them will be available for boarding.

Kids activities include a climbing rock wall, inflatable rides, paintball gallery, fish hatchery, face painting and pony rides. The Family Stage Schedule includes a variety of musical acts, as well as martial arts, reptile demonstrations, dance lessons and more.

For adults, the Beer and Wine Garden stage schedule features such bands as Bullet Creek, the Afrodisiacs, the Beatniks, No Rules and two Army Big Bands, just to name a few. A karaoke contest is 3-7 p.m. Sunday.

There will be all kinds of different food available, from corn on the cob to elephant ears, to a booth from local restaurants.

The 25th annual Edmonds Rotary Waterfront Festival is Friday through Sunday at the Port of Edmonds Marina. Admission is $3; children 12 and under free. Hours are 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

That is true about Citypark being in a lot of shade. Where's the skateboard park? Possibly a spotRead More at Edmonds Marina Beach??

Cassy said on Facebook (sorry to those having trouble logging in today!): Would love to have aRead More splash pad and yes please move it so it is in the full sun. If you are going to have a splash pad we need to take advantage of the sunshine.

A splash pad would be great, but that space is so shady - maybe next to the skateboard park instead.Read More

If you want to know what it's like to have your religion disrespected, try having school camps,Read More orchestra and band concerts and back-to-school nights on the holiest of your religious holidays (equivalent to Christmas and Easter). Everyone knows that an egg hunt is an Easter event whether it's called that or not. Everyone know that a holiday tree is really a Christmas tree. Trust me, the atheists and/or non-Christians are not trying to destroy Christianity. First, it would be impossible. Second, it would be too dangerous to us personally. Last, I personally respect other's traditions, but I'm not sure the same can always be said in reverse.

Don't we have more important things to worry about? Easter Egg, Egg Hunt, who cares? It's a funRead More community event. And thank you to the sponsers that make this happen.

First of all, the government is not supposed to promote any religion. Secondly, the Easter bunnyRead More and egg hunt has no historical religious significance that I can think of, even though this is part of an American tradition. I am good with deleting the word Easter, and would like to see a departure from any emphasis on candy, which only compounds the diabetic epidemic in this country. Sometimes it is good to rethink the wisdom of something simply because it is a "tradition".
