Fiesta for the Fifth of May

Celebrating Cinco de May in Edmonds.

“One tequila, two tequila, three tequila…” Well, we all know the saying. Whether tequila is your prerogative tonight or not, Cinco de Mayo runs deeper than margaritas and Mexican food.

Spanish for “the fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo commemorates the historic victory of the Mexican army over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The Mexican army overcame the French, who had twice the amount of soldiers, and the victorious battle is celebrated as a civic holiday in Mexico. It is not however, Mexican Independence Day, which occurs on September 16.

The mood of the day is still celebratory, so why not don a sombrero and head over to one of these cantinas for a night of fun? Arrriba!
