Edmonds Museum Garden Market Preview

The Edmonds Museum Garden Market starts tomorrow! Here's what you can expect.

Tomorrow marks the first day of the 9th annual Edmonds Museum Garden Market.

Margaret Wilcox, one of the co-chairs for the market committee, said in an e-mail that the Garden Market was an idea proposed by the Museum market manager, Neil Landaas, due to the interest by vendors and customers for early garden/farm products.

Landaas explained in a phone interview that the Garden Market, which takes place in May and June, will be held in the Museum’s parking lot so the main street will remain open during the two months before the Summer Market comes around.

The Garden Market is a smaller version of the Summer Market in July and caters more toward the early fruits and vegetables, plants, flowers, nuts, honey, processed food, and garden/outdoor art. The Summer Market contains all of the above plus a wide range of crafts, artisans-jewelry, soaps, woodworking, photography, artists, etc.

Wilcox said that about 45 vendors will be showcasing their goods at the Garden Market.

“It’s difficult to tell [how many patrons can be expected], but it’s a rain or shine market and lots of people usually stroll through,” Wilcox added.

The market expects a good variety of vendors this coming Saturday, along with two musicians to entertain. There will also be some prepared food like wood-fire pizzas for patrons to enjoy.

Both the Garden and Summer Markets are sponsored by the Edmonds Historical Museum and are fundraising projects to help keep the Museum operating.

“Most of the rental space for each vendor goes directly to the Museum,” Wilcox said.

Landaas said the Garden Market can bring intangible benefits.

“It provides a way for farmers to sell their goods and for the public to buy fresh products," Landaas said.

Landaas looks to accomplish other long-term goals through the markets. “As part of the organizers, I hope to help rebuild the food processing system and the local economy.”

Garden Market runs on Saturdays from May 7th - June 25th from 9:00AM - 2:00PM. Summer Market runs from July 2nd - Oct.1st (except for August 13th because of the Taste of Edmonds) from 9:00AM - 3:00PM.
