Edmonds Garden Market Returns with New Museum Exhibit

After a month of remodeling and new exhibit installation, the Edmonds Historical Museum will reopen Saturday, May 4, with its main exhibition on display upstairs.

The same day, the Edmonds Garden Market will open nearby in the Public Safety Building parking lot. The spring market runs Saturdays through June 22, then transforms for the summer to the expanded Summer Market.

“Growing Season: Farming in Snohomish County” will be on display the entire market season, from May 4 through October 5. The exhibit celebrates Snohomish County's rich agricultural history, and features vintage farm equipment and historical photographs, as well as items on loan from the Western Heritage Center in Monroe.

In addition to the temporary exhibit, the museum unveils several new displays on its lower level. The building was closed most of the month of April for new carpet installation, painting, and the renovation of several exhibit spaces. The lower level now features a beautiful Victorian dollhouse, created by Gloria Osberg of Edmonds and donated to the museum recently, a school corner, and many other new features. The renovations were made possible by generous donations and volunteer efforts.

“We think we've made some positive changes here,” said Museum Director Tarin Erickson. “Many of the downstairs exhibits hadn't been updated in 20 years and we know that prevented people from visiting us. We're excited for people to see the new exhibits, and enjoy our garden and summer markets this year.”

The museum will be open Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature before-and-after photos of the renovated spaces. The Edmonds Museum Garden Market also starts that day in the Public Safety parking lot at 5th and Bell, and runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Last summer, so leave the pooches at home.

The Edmonds Historical Museum is located at 118 5th Ave. N. in downtown Edmonds. It is open regularly from Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Suggested donation is $5 per adult and $2 per child. For more information, go to historicedmonds.org.
