Who or What Would You Choose as the Mascot for Edmonds?

Would the Edmonds Beach Water Temperature-Taker Dude abide?

If Edmonds had a mascot, who or what would it be? (We know it's silly, but some levity seems to be in order these days.)

This question, first asked on Edmonds Patch's Facebook page, drew some interesting comments from users.

Consensus so far: How about Bill Lindsay, locally famous as the Edmonds Beach Water Temperature-Taker Dude, the guy with more than 6,700 likes on a Facebook page created by a fan.

Joleen Sims Thomas and Emily Mercier Incrocci nominated the Dude, as did Absolute Fitness and Sports Performance and Mark Dusty Weller.

Danielle Finney provided the best description of the Dude as mascot: "Water temp dude riding a baby seal in the waves & holding a trident shaped thermometer."

Of course, we don't know if the Dude would abide with the idea.

Other suggestions? They included a seagull, baby seal and the ferry, of course.

A few others were also intriguing. Kevin Morrison suggested a lumberjack, a nod to Edmonds' historical background, and Brad Robinson suggested an investment banker. (Brad could be the mascot himself, as he was a familiar face delivering mail on Edmonds streets for years.)

Ray Fahrenkopf had two suggestions: a retired person of great age or a giant bottle of Metamucil. If you know anything about Edmonds' reputation, you might agree with these two.

Any other suggestions? The best ones will be submitted to the city, although we're not holding our breath here.
