Al's Diner, A Mid-Century Edmonds Landmark

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Al's Diner, just north of the railroad station, offered standard American diner fare and more to the Edmonds community.

A fixture of mid-century Edmonds, Al's Diner stood between the ferry terminal and the railroad station on the east side of the tracks.

The forerunner of later Edmonds waterfront restaurants, Al's was more than a diner. In addition to the traditional American lunchwagon fare of eggs however-you-want-them, burgers and soup, Al's was known for expanded offerings and specials that carried hints of the fine dining ambiance that would grace the Edmonds waterfront in later years.

Al's was demolished in the 1960s to make way for improvements, including expanded parking and the new ferry holding lanes. Part of the site later became home to a Skippers fish and chips franchise, which subsequently closed. After several years of sitting vacant, the building reopened in 2010 as Vatika Cuisine of India.
