Edmonds Will Be Swarming With Kids Today for Family Halloween Happenings

Trick-or-treating, a pumpkin-carving contest, a haunted museum and scary stories are all part of the celebration of a uniquely American experience.

Time to get your spook on. Here's a list of Halloween activities in Edmonds:

 The will host Halloween Bash at 4 p.m. The all-ages event includes the reading of scary tales to get you in the mood for trick-or-treating. It’s supported by the Friends of the Edmonds Library.

The annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat Night is designed so children can enjoy a safe trick-or-treating experience. will be closed to cars and participating merchants will be handing out treats in front of their businesses from 5 to 7 p.m.

Activiity will center around the fountain at Fifth and Main streets. Streets will be blocked off to protect the trick-or-treaters, who are overwhelmingly elementary-school age. Participating merchants will be handing out treats from 5-7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 425-776-6711.

For the second year in a row, downtown Edmonds will also be celebrating Green Halloween, an event promoted as providing traditional Holloween festivities while for kids and their parents. It will happen concurrently with the trick-or-treating.

The event is sponsored by Womentorz.com, along with several local businesses.

At the same time, the Edmonds Historical Museum will be having its annual Haunted Museum in its lower level. It’s described as a “friendly” haunting. Admission is $1, and there will be fortune cookies for the kids. It’s from 4-7 p.m. For more information, call 425-774-0900.

Members of the will be judging the city's first-ever, official Edmonds Pumpkin Carving Contest. The church will be judging entries. Scheduled to be an annual event, it's sponsored by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce

Here are the contest's pertinent details:

  • Use your imagination. Think outside the pumpkin.
  • Pumpkins must be lighted with glow stick or other battery-operated lighting device. No candles.
  • Use up to five pumpkins for your sculpture.
  • Drop off your pumpkin for judging at North Sound Church, 404 Bell St., between noon and 4 p.m. today.

Awards will be given in the following categories: scariest, most creative, most beautiful, funniest and "we didn't see that coming."

Pumpkins will be on display for public viewing at Fourth and Main steets from 5-7 during the annual downtown trick-or-treat event.

Those who just want to display their pumpkins can bring it by the pumpkin display at 5 p.m.
