It's turning out to be a rather blustery Christmas Day in Puget Sound.
Earlier, the National Weather Service had issued gale-force wind warnings in some areas of Western Washington. Edmonds and the lowlands of Puget Sound were under a wind advisory until 3 p.m. That meant periods of sustained wind from 30 to 39 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
From Camano Island north to Point Roberts, a gale warning was in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday. That meant winds of 34 mph to 47 mph were imminent or actually occuring.
There were reports of power outages in various locations in Snohomish County. In addition, outages were reported in Shoreline, Burien and SeaTac.
On Whidbey Island, a falling tree branch blamed on the wind killed an 9-year-old girl. According to the Seattle Times, a branch estimated at about a foot in diameter fell on a Ford Explorer just before 1 p.m. in the 7600 block of Bailey Road in Clinton.
