Plunkett, a councilmember since 1998, says he will announce a time frame for his departure in about a month.

"I will be resigning," he confirmed. "And in about 30 days I'll put out a statement and a time frame."

During his terms in office he has served as a former council president and on the following committees: Public Safety (chair, 2000-2002), Edmonds Alliance for Economic Development, Historical Preservation Commission, Fire Consolidation, Comprehensive Human Resources, Edmonds Downtown Parking, Highway 99 Task Force, and Community Development Services.
Plunkett, who is also a real estate agent, has been Council liaison to the Port of Edmonds and been a representative on the SNOCOM Board.

Michael Plunkett has been a wonderful representative of the citizens' voices of Edmonds. I am truly saddened by this news as he has been a watchdog for no taller buildings in the downtown and waterfront area and preserving our historic charm. His knowledge and history of Edmonds will certainly be missed. Having said that, I am elated that he has decided that living in Seattle with his new family is far more important than Edmonds politics, as at times, this can be a thankless job. He has been a wonderful mentor and friend to me and I wish him the best! Happy Trails to you, Michael (and Patty) and I want to thank you for taking the time to ensure that everything is in place before you leave.
